Press Release: AUC convenes chairperson’s 17th high-level retreat on the promotion of peace, security and stability in Africa

The African Peace Support Trainers Association is honoured to announce its participation in the ongoing African Union Chairperson’s 17th High-Level Retreat on the Promotion of Peace, Security and Stability in Africa which took place in Libreville from 20th to 22nd May 2026. The retreat, convened by the African Union, was held under the theme: “Powering Ceasefire, National Dialogue and Reconciliation for Durable Peace.”

APSTA was represented at this important continental engagement by its Executive Secretary, Dr. Cecile Oyono THOM, whose participation underscores the Association’s unwavering commitment to strengthening Africa’s peace and security architecture through professional training, strategic dialogue, conflict prevention, and institutional capacity building. The high-level retreat brought together policymakers, peace and security practitioners, regional organizations, diplomatic actors, and strategic partners to deliberate on pathways toward sustainable peace across the continent, particularly through ceasefire initiatives, inclusive national dialogue processes, and reconciliation mechanisms in conflict-affected regions.

Through its participation, APSTA reiterated its support for African-led solutions to African challenges and reaffirms its commitment to contributing to durable peace efforts through enhanced collaboration, peace support training, mediation support, and knowledge-sharing initiatives. APSTA remains committed to working closely with the African Union, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), Member States, and international partners in advancing sustainable peace, stability, and resilience across the continent.
