The African Peace Support Trainers Association (APSTA) was founded in 2001 as a framework for improving the capacity of peacekeeping training institutions by facilitating the exchange of best practices and capacity development support, and for enhancing the impact of peacekeeping initiatives by the AU and Regional Economic Communities/Regional Mechanisms (RECs/RMs). As a non-profit making organization, APSTA was formally established in 2002 as the African Chapter of the International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centres (IAPTC).
We can all take responsibility for helping to bring about change, and keeping our friends and colleagues safe from domestic violence. This year let’s take this pledge.
There is one universal truth, applicable to all countries, cultures, and communities: violence against women is never acceptable, never excusable, and never tolerable.
We must unite. Violence against women cannot be tolerated, in any form, in any context, in any circumstance, by any political leader, or by any government. Happy International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
The best protection any woman can have… is courage. Let’s celebrate International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
Women should know that love doesn’t abuse you. It shouldn’t hurt you. Love cannot be redefined into ‘He only hit me once, I’ll let it slide.’ Love is happiness, not being neglectful, caring, being respectful, providing, having standards, kindness, and standing up for the right things.
It’s never too late to do the right thing. Happy International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
You don’t have to wait for someone to treat you badly repeatedly. All it takes is once, and if they get away with it once they know they can treat you like that, then it sets the pattern for the future. Be Brave.
From every wound, there is a scar, and every scar tells a story. A story that says, I survived. Happy International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
About 736 million women have been exposed to physical and/or sexual violence, at least once in their lives. More than four in five women and girls are living in countries without robust legal protection, or in countries for which data are not promptly available.
The International Association of Peacekeeping Training Centres (IAPTC) conducts its 26th Annual Conference at the Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Operation Training (BIPSOT, close to the capital Dhaka) between 31 October and 4 November 2022.
The overall conference theme in 2022 is :
"World peace must develop from inner peace. Peace is not just mere absence of violence. Peace is, I think, the manifestation of human compassion."
Dalai Lama XIV
"You find peace not by rearranging the circumstances of your life, but by realizing who you are at the deepest level."
Eckhart Tolle
"It is not enough to win a war ; It is more important to organize the peace"
Aristotle
"Violence is impractical because it is a descending spiral ending in destruction for all. It is immoral because it seeks to humiliate the opponent rather than win his understanding: it seeks to annihilate rather than convert. Violence is immoral because it thrives on hatred rather than love. It destroys community and makes brotherhood impossible. It leaves society in monologue rather than dialogue. Violence ends up defeating in itself. It creates bitterness in the survivors and brutality in the destroyers."
Rev./Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
"Often, we take stability - peace in terms of security and economic activity - to mean a country is doing well. We forget the third and important pillar of rule of law and respect for human rights, because no country can long remain prosperous without that third pillar"
Kofi Annan
"The basic building block of peace and security for all peoples is economic and social security, anchored in sustainable development. It is a key to all problems. Why? Because it allows us to address all the great issues-poverty, climate, environment and political stability-as parts of the whole."
Ban Ki-moon
"The well-being of mankind, its peace and security, are unattainable unless and until its unity is firmly established"
President George W. Bush
